Recording from the boundary is a straightforward setup that doesn’t require permission from the opposing team, although it’s courteous to ask. To optimize the view, choose a location with some elevation to minimize obstructions by on-field players. The ideal angle is roughly 20 degrees to the left of the bowler’s stumps (see diagram below). This position is advantageous because most bowlers bowl on the left-hand side of the stumps, so the non-striker batter is less likely to obstruct the camera’s view.
To ensure a stable recording, set up your phone on a sturdy tripod and connect a battery pack to ensure that the phone remains powered throughout the match. A robust tripod is recommended to minimize the impact of wind. Consider using a distortionless 3x telephoto lens to enhance the image quality. These lenses are affordable, compact, and provide a decent level of zoom without unbalancing the phone.
